Baby Name Wheel
Stuck between your favourites? Put them on the wheel and let it decide. Unlike a blank spinner, every name here comes loaded with its real meaning, origin and popularity — and you can fill the wheel from 200,000+ names in one click instead of typing them out.
Pulls the most popular matching names from real birth-registry data across 28 countries. Spin again for a fresh set.
We will look each one up and show its real meaning if we have it — and say so honestly if we do not.
One spin, one answer. Nothing leaves the wheel, so spin again any time for a fresh pick.
How this works
How do I get names onto the wheel?
Three ways. Your shortlist loads the names you have already hearted anywhere on this site. Fill from our names pulls matching names straight out of our database of 200,000+ names, so you never have to type a list out. Type your own accepts any names at all, including ones we have never heard of.
Is the spin actually random?
Yes. The winning segment is chosen first using your browser's random number generator, and the animation simply spins to it. There is no weighting, no house favourite, and nothing about a name changes its odds.
What is the difference between the three modes?
There are three, because people are trying to do three different things. Pick a winner spins once and leaves everything on the wheel — good for "just decide for me", and you can spin again for a fresh pick. Draw winners records whoever it lands on as your next pick and takes them off the wheel, so spinning three times gives you a ranked top three. Elimination works the other way round: each spin knocks a name out, and you keep going until a single favourite is left standing. Many people find a decision easier to accept that way, because every name gets its moment.
Can I pick more than one name?
Yes — use Draw winners. Each spin picks the next name and removes it, and the button tells you which position you are spinning for ("Spin for #2"). Your picks build up as a numbered list underneath, so you can stop at a top 3, a top 10, or keep going until the wheel is empty.
Where do the meanings and origins come from?
The exact same database row that the name's own page reads, sourced from birth registries in 28 countries plus our documented etymology data. If we do not have a documented meaning for a name, we say so rather than inventing one.
Can I send my wheel to someone else?
Yes. Every wheel has its own link containing the names on it, so you can send it to a partner or family and they will open the identical wheel. Nothing is stored on our servers to do this — the names travel in the link itself.
Is the shareable card stored on your servers?
No. The card image is generated entirely in your browser and downloads straight to your device — nothing is uploaded or stored.
